The Thirteen-Planetary Map of the Nafs

The thirteen planetary principles are approached through two complementary groups:
6 Personal Planetary Functions — The Experiencing Nafs
The six personal planetary functions describe the ways in which the nafs experiences everyday life most directly.
Sun — centre, identity and direction
Moon — emotional rhythm, needs and habitual responses
Mercury — thought, perception and communication
Venus — attraction, values and relationship
Mars — desire, impulse, action and survival
Ceres — material resources, accumulation, expenditure and giving (infāq)
Together, these six functions create a practical map of the experiencing nafs.
They help the individual recognise how identity is formed, how emotions are experienced, how thoughts are organised, how relationships and values are shaped, how desire becomes action, and how material resources are received, held, used and shared.
7 Principles — Developing Influences
The second group describes the broader developing influences through which the personal functions of the nafs gain greater meaning, awareness and direction.
Jupiter — meaning, belief, judgement and wider understanding
Saturn — limits, responsibility, discipline and endurance
Uranus — freedom, awakening, renewal and new ways of experiencing life
Neptune — trust in the Divine (tawakkul), surrender (taslīm) and openness to a wider reality
Chiron — the experience of the wound, endurance and the journey towards healing
Pluto — power, control, intensity, loss and transformation
Eris — exclusion, rivalry, discord, chaos, dissimulation (nifāq) and the emergence of concealed truth
The six personal planetary functions show how the nafs experiences life.
The seven principles reveal the broader influences through which those experiences acquire meaning, depth and developmental direction.
Soul Guidance brings these two dimensions together by exploring how a developing influence interacts with a personal function through lived experience.
For example, Saturn may bring responsibility and limits into the way Mars acts. Pluto may bring power and control into the way Venus relates. Neptune may bring surrender into the way the Sun directs the self. Chiron may bring the experience of a wound into the emotional world of the Moon.
In this way, the birth chart becomes a living symbolic map through which the individual can recognise both the experience and the meaning carried within it.
